My name is Tatum and I love getting my hands dirty. Ever since I can remember I have loved creating. I knew art was what I wanted to be surrounded by for the rest of my life.
I took every art class that was offered and made one-of-one clothing throughout high school. When I graduated high school, I was offered a job as a freelance painter by a music production company called Goldenvoice. I was given the privilege of creating hand painted art for musicians. I taught myself how to work under strict deadlines and parameters to please the client. This fulfilled me but I was yearning for more. I heard about a position in the film industry I never knew existed called, '‘ager/dyer”. It consisted of dying fabric and aging costumes to look old, burned, bloody etc.. This interested me. I was put in touch with a master ager/dyer with 20+ years of experience. He saw my portfolio and believed in me enough to bring me onto the production he was currently working on. I was again challenged with strict deadlines, but now there was 100 of everything and I was working with a team that I wouldn’t have dreamed of letting down. This opened doors for me as an artist that I didn’t know existed. I was able to work on productions such as Obi Wan Kenobi, Winning Time: the Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, and The Mandalorian.
I’ve since stepped back from the industry to focus on my nail business as well as dyeing. Painting tiny things on fingernails has honed in my attention to detail and brush precision. Dyeing has become an amazing outlet for me to counteract the perfection of nail art, i’m able to let go and accept that I can’t control the dye. I have to trust that it will be beautiful, and it usually is.
I am so eager to keep learning and I feel so grateful to be an artist.
